Tinsley Social Prescribing Scheme
History
The Tinsley social prescribing scheme started in July 2008. The scheme is based in the heart of Tinsley within the Tinsley One Stop Shop with its aims being to broaden service provision for patients with non-clinical needs and to facilitate links between primary care and the voluntary sector.
The scheme works with patients in a way that is tailored to their own appropriate needs in order to offer a caring and supportive service that looks to reduced isolation, increase confidence and give patients access to a non-stigmatised alternative support.
The scheme has the potential to reduce workload and improve the quality of patient professional consultation being of benefit to staff and patients alike. The scheme offers an extension of primary health care and adds further to the holistic work happening in the Highgate and Ingfield Avenue Surgeries.
How Can This Scheme Help You
The Tinsley Social Prescribing Scheme is a confidential service where we work alongside the GP's based in Tinsley.
Local people who visit their GP's or other health professionals are able to benefit from a non-medical community based signposting service. This could include:
gardening on the Tinsley allotment
joining a local walking group or light exercise class
taking up a new learning opportunity
becoming a volunteer
Becoming more involved in community and making new friends has been shown to make a significant difference to people's health.
