Recent Achievements

In September we held 2 Volunteering Opportunities and Training Information Events.  Representatives from local groups and training providers attended the events to provide information about their services and volunteers helped make sure that everything ran smoothly.

Volunteers have supported local events such as:

  • the Health and Information Day (July 2007) - preparing display boards, manning stalls and providing information to potential volunteers about volunteering.

  • the Community Fun Day (August 2007) - helping with parachute games, card making activities, the community café and much, much more.

  • supported the summer trips organised by Tinsley Forum's Youth Development Workers.

Tinsley Forum's Volunteer Project started in June 2007.  It aims to find places for local people to work as volunteers both in Tinsley and Sheffield wide.  It also works with local groups and organizations which might be looking for volunteers.

What happens if you're interested in volunteering?

Potential volunteers’ have a one-to-one meeting with Janet, the Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator, to discuss their interests and personal aspirations to ensure that the volunteer placement is appropriate to support their future development.  Placements have included admin support at the Forum, volunteering at the Community Café, support work at the Advice Service, as well as outside activity on the allotment volunteering for the Tinsley Tree Project.

A free ten week course – Certificate in Community Development - started in November 2007 (Tuesdays 9.30am – 12.30pm at the Community Centre, Ingfield Avenue, Tinsley).  It is a level 2 course.  There is a requirement to do 2 hours volunteering as part of this course.
